Under the Sea

One of my favorite bands, Timeflies, does a great cover of the song "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid. By mixing a well-known chorus with contemporary rap verses and a catchy beat, Cal and Rez create a work of art that is both unique and classic. This song is just one example of Disney's lasting influence on culture and the ease at which it can be adapted to suit different purposes.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this Jessica! I'd never heard of Timeflies before I read your post but I will definitely be following them now! I think the cover they did, as you said, gives the best of both worlds by mixing some of the classic Disney beats and lyrics with a modern upbeat tone. This song is a great way for me to stay in touch with Disney while listening to music I love. While I do love Disney, I must admit that you will not find any traditional Disney songs on my iPod. I also think this cover is a great way to connect Disney to an older audience. While younger kids love to listen to the original songs, these type of songs can keep other generations engaged in Disney as well. In any case, I will be downloading this to iTunes promptly and on the lookout for similar adaptations!
